The Hardiness Scale: Garden Seeds are rated by hardiness for the areas they grow best in and the USDA Zone Number indicates the coldest zones in which they normally will succeed. Make sure you purchase seeds according to your own areas ‘hardiness’ when you purchase seeds by catalog or from out of state. Locally purchased seeds will likely have already been chosen for sale in your area, but read the back of the package to be sure you have the right seeds for your zone.
